As a native Swiss German speaker, I can also help you understand everyday communication in Switzerland and feel more at home here.
My goal is to help you make fast, meaningful progress while keeping the process enjoyable and relaxed.
My name is Theres. I’m a trained primary school teacher and have been working as a full-time German teacher in Zurich since 2024.
I’ve lived abroad for several years — including in Brazil — and speak English, Portuguese, French, and Spanish in addition to my native Swiss German.
Thanks to my teaching background and my experience with students from more than 50 countries, I know how to break down language in a clear, structured, and practical way.
What matters most to me is that my students feel confident in everyday situations, make steady progress, and feel more at home in Switzerland — linguistically and culturally.
I’d be happy to join you on your journey to learning German!

Lessons ususally include a mix of:
Speaking practice
Vocabulary building
Grammar exercises
If you have a specific focus (e.g. exam preparation for the Goethe Certificate / Swiss citizenship test / etc.), I can adjust the lesson accordingly. We work with structured materials and after each lesson you'll receive the key content and homework for review in digital form.
The lessons are completely digital, which means you only need your laptop or tablet and optionally a notebook for your personal notes.
All learning materials are provided digitally, so you don’t need to buy any books or additional resources.
Do you want to prepare for an exam – whether it’s the Goethe Certificate, FIDE, telc, or the Swiss naturalization test? Together, we’ll go through the exam structure, practice with real test materials, and strengthen your German so you can approach the exam confidently and relaxed.
To make progress, you should take at least one lesson per week. If you consistently take two or more lessons per week and do homework, you will notice clear improvements quickly.
In general: the more contact you have with the language, the faster you progress. This can happen not only in lessons, but also at home through self-study or in interaction with German speakers.
It depends on your previous knowledge, the frequency of your lessons, and how much time you invest in studying outside of class. As a general guideline, one language level (e.g. A1) usually requires around 60 hours of instruction. If you take two 120-minute lessons per week and complete the assigned homework, you can typically finish one level in about 15 weeks.
It's recommended to first build a solid foundation in Standard German (around B2 level) before starting Swiss German lessons. This helps avoid mixing the two languages too much.
However, during regular German lessons, I can already point out Swiss-specific features of Standard German and teach you the most common Swiss words and expressions, so you get an early feel for the Swiss language without affecting your Standard German skills.
Swiss German lessons focus on understanding Swiss German - especially the Zurich dialect.
We read texts in Swiss German, listen to audios in different dialects, and closely examine the differences between Swiss German and Standard German.
Unlike regular German lessons, the focus here isn’t on grammar or perfection, but on overcoming the language barrier with Swiss German speakers.
Yes! Group lessons are possible, for example for colleagues, friends, or family members. The lessons are designed so that everyone can actively participate.
Yes, I offer structured courses for businesses. Each level (e.g., A1, B2) can accommodate up to 10 participants. With 2 lessons of 120 minutes per week, it takes about 10 weeks to complete a level.
